$50.00 (EA)

Mr. Jake Wilhelm built the Spanish Lake Blacksmith Shop in 1875. He came to the area to help with the construction of the first permanent bridge to span the Mississippi River. When the Eads Bridge was completed, Mr. Wilhelm became the village Smith for the Spanish Lake Community. Mr. Wilhelm's son Joe followed his father in the trade. When modern inventions and changing times lessened the demand for the Blacksmith, Joe concentrated his efforts on the various needs of area farmers. Mr. Joe Wilhelm continued operating the shop until his death. This watercolor painting by Wisconsin artist Todd Persche, preserves a moment from days gone by when a warm glow from the Smith's forge was an open invitation for the community to gather. Print is not framed. Print is 15" x 25" 250 signed and numbered prints
